FOMAHI NEWS - May 2024
Success at Lionel Hampton, Oaks Park, and Silverwood!

The spring trips were a great success, thanks to the many volunteers, chaperones, and students who dedicated their time and effort, not to mention our fearless music directors, Ms. Pence and Mr. Ogle!  Some of our awards include:

Lionel Hampton

  • Vocal Jazz - Junior Runner Up , Vocal Large Ensembles
  • Vocal Solos – Junior Winner (Max Grey), Junior Runner Up (Lily Jerome)
  • Jazz Band – Junior Runner Up, Instrumental Large Ensembles

Oaks Park

  • Concert Choir - 1st Place MS Treble Choir, 83.75/100, Excellent Rating
  • Vocal Jazz - 1st Place MS Jazz Choir, 90.5/100, Superior Rating

Silverwood

  • Jazz Band - 1st place MS Jazz Band, 91.5/100, Superior Rating.
  • Concert Band - 1st Place in MS Concert Band AA Division, 90.75/100, Superior Rating. Also won "Overall Best MS Concert Band Award" for A and AA MS Concert Bands!

New Board Members Wanted for 2024-25!

Would you like to have a front row seat to the Hamilton student music experience? Consider joining the FOMAHI Board!  The Board is comprised of the two directors and eight to ten parents, several whom are "graduating" with their 8th graders this spring. Summer Music Opportunities

She Can Swing!

A Lincoln 10th grader (Hamilton alum) is starting up a free program at Lincoln this summer called “She Can Swing” with the mission of helping get more female students into jazz. She came to concert band to give a presentation on the program to students.

Seattle All-City Band

The Seattle All-City Band is a local tradition since 1951 and registration for Summer 2024 is now open! Current 8th through 12th graders are encouraged to enroll. Families needing financial assistance to participate should find a form under the resources tab. The first rehearsal is June 25th @ 6 pm, Memorial Stadium in Seattle Center.

FOMAHI Funding Corner

This past month, FOMAHI has used your generously donated funds to help pay for a piano accompanist for intermediate and concert choirs, registration for music trips, instrument coaching, sheet music, and instrument repair. Thank you for your support!!

Come Meet Us!

All are welcome to join the next FOMAHI Board Meeting, happening in person in the Hamilton Library on June 11th from 7:00-8:30 pm. This is the last board meeting of the school year! Come introduce yourself, hear updates from our music directors, and listen in on the decisions and discussions surrounding FOMAHI Board business. If you are considering whether a Board position might be a good fit for you, this is a great way to check us out.
