FOMAHI NEWS

October 2024

Welcome Back!

Dear Hamilton Music Families:

We hope your student's music year is off to a great start!  At our September 24th board meeting, we were very excited to learn about the many concerts, festivals and trips the music directors have planned for this year. FOMAHI hopes it can fully support our directors with all the parent volunteers and funds they'll need!

For those of you who may not know, Friends of Music at Hamilton International (FOMAHI) is the non-profit booster group that supports our bands, choirs, and orchestras inside and outside the music room. FOMAHI makes sure every student has the opportunity to pursue their musical interests and fully participate in every activity. We support the music program through keeping parents up-to-date, organizing volunteers, facilitating field trips, providing scholarships and supplies – and more!

Parent Volunteers Needed!

FOMAHI is currently looking for new parents to serve in the following roles:

  • Fundraising Co-Chair - work with a seasoned Fundraising Chair to spearhead Music-a-Thon, restaurant "Dine-Out/Carry-Out" nights & concert bake sales.
  • Co-presidents for Band and Orchestra (2 roles) - represent students and parents of band or orchestra for setting agendas and chairing board meetings as well as supervising & controlling assets of the corporation.
  • Volunteer Coordination Chair - recruit volunteers for concerts through sign-up genius and assist during Music-a-Thon and other events, as necessary.
  • Website Chair - work with other board members to maintain and ensure accuracy of the FOMAHI website.

These are important roles and a great way to meet other parents while getting more involved in your student's music experience. Parents on the FOMAHI board and previous volunteers are available to help explain the commitment and get you started. Please email us at fomahihelp@gmail.com to volunteer or ask any questions! You are also more than welcome to attend the upcoming FOMAHI Board to get familiar with the board and the roles.

Come Meet Us!

The FOMAHI board meets once a month - our second meeting of the year is coming up on October 29th, 7:00-8:30 pm. This meeting will be via Zoom - please email fomahihelp@gmail.com or check the FOMAHI calendar the day before the meeting.

At our meetings, we receive updates from the directors, approve funding requests, and plan for concerts and events. Meetings for the rest of the year will be mainly virtual (7:00-8:30 pm). All are welcome! Please mark your calendars:

Live Performance at HIMS!!

Every year, the Seattle-Kobe Sister City Association presents a female jazz artist from Kobe, Japan – at a Seattle Public School, as well as an additional concert at the Royal Room in Columbia City (see attached poster). Last year’s artist performed at John Rogers Elementary.

This year’s artist, Motomi Iono, a jazz vocalist will perform at Hamilton International on Monday, October 14th.

Fundraising Corner

FOMAHI raises funds through an enrichment fee, an annual “Music-a-thon” fundraiser, Dine Out (Carryout) Nights, and concert bake sales. This year, we are asking parents to contribute a voluntary $40 enrichment fee to help keep FOMAHI going until its primary fundraiser – the Music-a-thon – in February 2024. If you have the means, we’d appreciate your support!  Please contribute to enrichment fees after creating/updating your FOMAHI account. If you have already contributed an enrichment fee, thank you so much!  https://fomahi.membershiptoolkit.com/open_forms
