FOMAHI NEWS

January 2021

Greetings, Hamilton music families!

You are receiving this email because you are registered with the Friends of Music at Hamilton International Middle School (FOMAHI).

At our January Board meeting, Hamilton's music directors shared with us how their number one goal is to engage as many students as possible during remote learning. Some groups are using technology—learning to use technology to record and edit their performances. Others are creating videos that simulate the group performance experience.

Since FOMAHI isn't spending funds on field trips this year, we are focussing our resources on individual and small group coaching. Please support our efforts by participating in and donating during Music-a-thon if you have the means.

Thank you!

FOMAHI Board

Save the Date! Music-a-thon is coming February 10th

This year's Music-a-thon will be a virtual event on Wednesday, February 10th.

Music-a-thon is a day of music! Students will play music throughout the day in their online classes. Music-a-thon crescendos with a 7pm concert held on Microsoft Teams. This will be a celebration of all the directors and students have been able to achieve even with the challenge of virtual learning.

Music teachers and FOMAHI will be sharing links to join the concert.

Music-a-thon is FOMAHI’s only fundraiser and helps support Hamilton’s award-winning music program. Money raised helps pay for instruments, instrument repair, sheet music, trips, supplies for the directors, and coaches who are giving private and small group lessons to students.

If you have the means, please Support FOMAHI and DONATE at https://fomahi.membershiptoolkit.com/musicathon

Questions? Please contact Emilee Murphey, FOMAHI Fundraising Chair, emileef@hotmail.com

Contribute to the YEARBOOK! Send photos of your student(s) rehearsing, recording for, or watching the concert to fomahihelp@gmail.com

Update Your FOMAHI Membership

Important! Have you updated your FOMAHI membership profile this school year? If not, please go to FOMAHI's website (https://fomahi.membershiptoolkit.com), log in and make sure your student's grade level and music class are correct for the 2020-21 school year. This will ensure you receive communications appropriate for your student's specific music class.

Know a HIMS music family who isn't receiving FOMAHI emails? Please forward this newsletter to them and send them to FOMAHI's website to register. We can only send emails to families that have registered. Spread the word! Thank you for your help.

If you have left the music program or Hamilton and need to unsubscribe, please go to www.fomahi.membershiptoolkit.com and choose "Log In" or "My Account" to change your preferences and account status.

FOMAHI is dedicated to ensuring all music students have access to the supplies and instruments they need. If assistance is needed or if there is difficulty in paying instrument rental fees, please reach out to your student's music teacher or the FOMAHI Board at fomahihelp@gmail.com.

Volunteer with FOMAHI!

Are you wanting to support your student's music education, help grow FOMAHI, and strengthen HIMS' music programs? We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers. If you're interested or have questions, please contact us at fomahihelp@gmail.com. We welcome you joining us in a way that suits your interests and availability. To learn more about FOMAHI and what we do, feel free to attend an upcoming virtual Board Meeting—see the calendar below for dates and meeting access.

Welcoming New Board Members

During our January meeting, the board appointed Julie Graber to serve as Secretary and Chris Sondreal as Communications Chair.

Julie Graber is a parent to sixth grade identical twins—one who plays clarinet in intermediate band—and the other, the cello in intermediate orchestra. She has an older child who graduated from HIMS last June and now plays the violin in the Lincoln High School Concert Orchestra.

Chris Sondreal has a sixth grader who performs in both intermediate band (flute) and choir.

Please join us in welcoming them!
