Get ready for Music-a-thon!

Happy 2022, Hamilton music families!

Get ready for a musical extravaganza! Music-a-thon 2022 will occur Thursday, February 10, 2022. A full day of music making- band, orchestra, choir, ukulele, and guitar classes, after school “rehearsals”, and a special online evening concert for all the Hamilton International community to enjoy!

Music-a-thon unites the Hamilton International community in a celebration of music and music making! This annual fundraiser is sponsored by the Friends of Music at Hamilton (FOMAHI) in direct support of the Choir, Orchestra, and Band programs.

Mark your calendar to tune into a special Young Musicians Showcase held again this year on Microsoft Teams at 7 pm. Hosted by HIMS own music directors, Angela Pence, Geoffrey Ogle and Brendan McGovern and featuring recorded performances by our students! This is their chance to shine and show-off their talents!

More details to come next month. We can’t wait to see what all the noise is about!!

Volunteers needed January 20th for Choir Concerts

Plans are moving forward with the in-person choir concerts on January 20th at Hamilton, and we need a handful of parent volunteers at the concerts to check vaccine cards and help with sound and recording.

(Currently, Intermediate Choir will perform at 6:30pm, Treble Choir at 7:15pm and Vocal Jazz at 8pm, and audiences will change over between performances.)

You must be registered as a volunteer with SPS to be able to volunteer, and the background check can take up to 2 weeks to be completed. Meet Brendan McGovern, Band Director (Long-term Substitute)

Director of Introductory Band A, Premier Band A, Intermediate Band A, Concert Band A, Jazz Band A

Brendan McGovern is a musician and educator who was born and grew up in Seattle. He went through Seattle Public Schools, attending Eckstein Middle School and Roosevelt High School, where he was a part of their nationally acclaimed jazz band. He received his Bachelors in Jazz Performance on Saxophone at UW in 2017, and since then has been active as a private music tutor and substitute band director in the Seattle area. He has worked for SPS since 2019, and has been subbing long-term at Hamilton since Spring of 2021.

Brendan has learned several instruments since he began with piano lessons at age 7, and now specializes in saxophone, clarinet, flute, piano, and trumpet. He will be attending Central Washington University this summer to begin his Master's in Teaching. He also performs regularly around town, mainly with a rock band called Forest Ray, and various other jazz bands, brass band groups, and wedding bands over the summer. Occasionally when he is not doing music, Brendan enjoys running, hiking, reading, cooking, and playing Nintendo Switch. He is happy to be subbing at Hamilton this school year and looks forward to what has already been and will continue to be an exciting year of growth and new opportunities for students in Music.

(For those who may not be aware, Paul Harshman, a Hamilton band director, is currently on leave. Brendan McGovern stepped into his shoes as a long-term substitute last year - and picked up again at the start of the 2021/22 school year. Please welcome him!)
