FOMAHI NEWS

February 2022

Music-A-Thon 2022 is here!

Hello, Hamilton music families:

Get ready for a musical extravaganza!

Music-a-thon 2022 is happening next Thursday, February 10, 2022. A full day of music making- band, orchestra, choir, ukulele guitar classes, and after school “rehearsals” will culminate in a special online evening concert for the Hamilton International community!

The past two years have turned so many things upside down - FOMAHI even suspended its annual dues - so we are grateful the music education programs that Hamilton International Middle School have continued to be so strong. Proceeds from Music-a-thon enrich our students’ music experience with new sheet music, coaching, keeping the pianos tuned, microphones working, getting the dents out of that old baritone sax and so much more!

Mark your calendar to tune into a special Young Musicians Showcase on 2/10 at 7 pm. Just like last year, this event will be held via Microsoft Teams:

Golden Envelopes are the Golden Ticket for our Orchestras, Choirs & Bands

Have you received your golden envelope yet?

Envelopes were distributed to students last Friday. Please use these envelopes to collect funds from family or friends. To be entered into the prize raffle, students need to return these envelopes to their music director WITH a parent signature at the bottom by February 10th. Students may return the envelope with or without funds to be entered into the raffle.

Hamilton has over 350 music students in its programs. If we could get an average family contribution of just over $100 dollars we’d meet our $40,000 fundraising goal. Please give whatever you feel comfortable giving.

We are so appreciative of whatever amount you can donate.

Wanted: Band Co-President

The parent serving as the Band co-president for the last year-and-a-half had to step down, and Mr. McGovern needs your help!

The co-presidents help create agendas and take a turn at running the monthly meetings alongside the choir- and orchestra co-presidents. This role also helps facilitate band events alongside the volunteer coordinator and other parents and tries to be available to support Brendan McGovern, the band director.

It’s not too steep a learning curve, and the other parents in FOMAHI are available to help you as you get started.

Join our volunteers!

Due to pandemic restrictions, performances and in-person events are on hold until March, but it's never too early to sign up and volunteer!

At concerts, volunteers help with setting up, checking vaccine cards, and recording the performance. Other times, music directors turn to the volunteer pool for help organizing music and securing chaperones for trips.

You must be registered as a volunteer with SPS to be able to volunteer, and the background check can take up to 2 weeks to be completed. If you want to volunteer, please complete the SPS volunteer application, and/or update your existing volunteer profile here: Volunteer Portal - Seattle Public Schools. Please contact FOMAHI's Volunteer Coordinator, Kate MacKenzie (amanda_katem@hotmail.com) when you've completed your volunteer registration or if you have any questions.
